PSU Mens Soccer falls in RWU Tourney final
Panthers blanked by William Paterson
BRISTOL, R.I. – William Paterson University scored two first-half goals and went on to record a 3-0 victory over Plymouth State University in the championship game of the Roger Williams University Turfer Men’s Soccer Classic.
An aggressive William Paterson team took control early, keeping the Plymouth State defense on its heels. Pioneer midfielder Ryan Miller (Colonia, N.J.) put William Paterson on top in the 15th minute with a beautiful backwards header off of a free kick by Tournament Offensive MVP Julian Valerio (Manalapan, N.J.)
Naeem Boucher (Paterson, N.J.) took advantage of a misplay by the Plymouth State defense at the 22:20 mark and chipped a short shot over the Panthers’ keeper to increase William Paterson’s lead to 2-0. Mike Lowe (Wilmington, Del.) gave the Pioneers their third and final goal of the day after an aggressive pursuit of the ball from a Panther defender in the box. After taking the ball away, Lowe put the shot on goal and into the back of the net.
Zach Collins (Bayville, N.J.) picked up his second win of the tournament in a three-save effort, while PSU sophomore Bjorn Ohlsson (Halmstad, Sweden) made four saves in the loss.
Junior Dre Cabral (Tokyo, Japan) and freshmen Moses Igah (Abuja, Nigeria) and Anders Olsson (Sturefors, Sweden) each received All-Tournament honors for Plymouth State.
