CENTERVILLE, Mass. — Eastern College Athletic Conference commissioner Rudy Keeling has announced the creation of the ECAC Division III Soccer Classic on Cape Cod. This event will debut in the fall of 2012 with seven men's and women's soccer programs.
"The ECAC is excited to have these D-III member institutions on Cape Cod for our first annual event. We feel that the Cape is an ideal place to conduct a soccer tournament and we look forward to some very competitive games," Commissioner Keeling said. "With the assistance of the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce and the Town of Yarmouth, this will be a great event for D-III soccer."
The Classic will be held Friday through Sunday, Aug. 31 to Sept. 2, at Peter Homer Memorial Park in South Yarmouth. The inaugural tournament teams include men's teams from Colby-Sawyer College, John Jay College and Plymouth State University in a round-robin format; and on the women's side, Bridgewater State University, Daniel Webster College, Norwich University and SUNY Purchase will play a championship-style format.
The Classic also includes a banquet on Friday night to welcome the seven teams to Cape Cod. On Saturday evening a free youth soccer clinic instructed by the participating coaches and student-athletes will be held. Area youth soccer players are encouraged to attend the college games and participate in the clinic, where they will focus on individual skill development. Coaches and student-athletes are excited by the opportunity to promote their programs and institutions through this community service initiative.
