Groves, Ohlsson recognized after Panthers post two wins
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Two Plymouth State University men's soccer players were honored by the Little East Conference Monday for their performances in a pair of Panther victories last week as PSU extended its winning streak to three.
Junior Adam Groves (Brooksville, Maine/Stevens Academy) and senior Bjorn Ohlsson (Halmstad, Sweden) were named LEC Men's Soccer Defensive Player and Goalkeeper of the Week, respectively. They were key players in PSU's 3-1 win Wednesday over Daniel Webster College and Saturday's 1-0 LEC triumph over the University of Southern Maine.
A 6'3", 185-pound defender, Groves anchored the PSU defense that allowed just one goal in the two games, including its second straight LEC shutout. He and his teammates limited Daniel Webster to 12 shots and held Southern Maine to just seven shots. Groves, who played for USM the past two years before transferring to PSU prior to this season, also scored the only goal of the game against USM on a header in the 86th minute.
A 6'1", 178-pound goalkeeper, Ohlsson posted two wins with one shutout and just one goal surrendered last week for the Panthers. He made four saves in a 3-1 non-conference win Wednesday over Daniel Webster, and he made four saves in Saturday's 1-0 LEC shutout victory over Southern Maine. It's the second straight week that Ohlsson has been named the LEC Goalie of the Week.
PSU, 5-7-0 overall and 2-2-0 in the Little East, plays its next three games on the road, beginning Monday (Oct. 8) at Nichols College.
