PSU Men’s Soccer freshman earns Little East weekly honor
Karlstrand named Rookie of the Week for Panthers
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – A freshman on the Plymouth State University men's soccer team was honored by the Little East Conference Tuesday for his performance in two Panther games last week as PSU clinched an LEC playoff berth.
Freshman Ted Karlstrand (Halmstad, Sweden) was named LEC Men's Soccer Rookie of the Week. He helped the Panthers to a 2-1 overtime victory over the University of Massachusetts Boston that clinched the final LEC playoff spot for PSU.
A 6'1", 164-pound midfielder, Karlstrand tallied two goals in PSU's 1-1 week, scoring once in each game. He notched PSU's only goal in Wednesday's 3-1 non-conference loss to Clark University, and he scored with 3:46 remaining in regulation Saturday to tie the game in PSU's 2-1 LEC double overtime victory over UMass Boston.
Karlstrand has played in just nine games this season due to injury, and shares the team lead with four goals.
PSU, 7-10-0 overall, finished the regular season with a 4-3-0 mark in Little East games. The Panthers are the fourth seed in this week's LEC Tournament and visit top-seeded Eastern Connecticut State University on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. for a semifinal match-up. The LEC Championship game is slated for Saturday at the highest remaining seed, with the winner earning an automatic bid into the NCAA Division National Championship Tournament.
