Two PSU Men’s Soccer players named to Senior All-Star game


Panthers to be represented by Spear, Ohlsson

            PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Two members of the Plymouth State University men's soccer team have been selected to play in the 2012 New England Intercollegiate Soccer Senior All-Star Game.

            Midfielder Parker Spear (Sodus Point, N.Y.) and goalkeeper Bjorn Ohlsson (Halmstad, Sweden) will compete for Plymouth State at this year's game which will take place on Sunday, November 25th on the campus of Harvard University in Cambridge, Mass.  Both Panther players were four-year starters for the Panthers and will proudly represent the Green and White at this year's game.

            The Panthers are two of the six players from the Little East Conference who were selected to participate in the game.

            Spear, who was named First Team All-Little East earlier this week, anchored the Panthers with strong all-around play and leadership at both ends of the field.  He led the team in scoring with five goals and three assists, taking a team-high 37 shots, while also creating numerous scoring opportunities.  A four-year starter, Spear finished his career with nine goals and 15 assists in 62 games.

            Ohlsson finished this season with a 1.83 goals against average and three shutouts, averaging nearly five saves per game.  He winded up his career with 57 starts in 59 games, posting a 1.88 goals against average with nine clean sheets.

            PSU finished the season with a 7-11-0 overall record, with eight of its 11 losses coming by one goal.  The Panthers finished 4-3 in the Little East, qualifying for the LEC Tournament for the first time since 2008, but were edged in overtime in the semifinals by eventual champion Eastern Connecticut, 2-1.
