Four PSU Men’s Soccer players named to All-LEC team

Panther All-Stars include Herbert, Groves, Bua, Hughes

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Four members of the Plymouth State University men's soccer team were recognized by the Little East Conference Tuesday for their performances over the course of the 2013 season, as voted by the LEC head coaches.

Sophomore Alex Herbert (Lexington, Mass.) highlighted the list of honorees for PSU as he was named to the All-Little East First Team, while three other Panthers earned Second Team honors – seniors Adam Groves (Brooksville, Maine) and Christian Bua (Gilford, N.H.) and sophomore Graham Hughes (Billerica, Mass.) Groves is a repeat selection, having earned Second Team honors last year, while the others are first-time choices.

A 5'4" sophomore, Herbert was a force as a starting defender this season.  He used his outstanding speed on defense and could also move up to forward provide a spark to the Panther offense.  Herbert led the team with five goals, three assists and 13 points.

Groves, a 6'3" defender, stood tall along the Panther back line.  He helped the Panthers post four shutouts this season and a stretch of allowing only two goals over a six-game span. Groves also scored PSU's only goal in a 1-1 tie against LEC foe Western Connecticut.

Bua and Hughes were key players for the Panthers, earning All-Conference honors as midfielders. They did much of the work that doesn't show up on the score sheet and were recognized by the opposing coaches for their efforts. Hughes was second on the team with three goals.

PSU finished the season with a 5-8-3 overall record, 1-4-2 in the Little East.
