PSU Men’s Soccer holds off Daniel Webster

Karlstrand nets a goal and assist in win for Panthers

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Junior Ted Karlstrand (Halmstad, Sweden) tallied a goal and an assist Wednesday afternoon as Plymouth State University held off Daniel Webster College, 2-1, in non-conference men's soccer action at Arold Field.

Daniel Webster had an opportunity to tie the score with five seconds remaining in the game. The Eagles were awarded a free kick after a Plymouth State defenseman tried picking up the ball 25 yards away from the PSU goal, thinking the game was over. Daniel Webster brought everyone, including the goalkeeper to screen PSU's Felix Lindeberg (Stockholm, Sweden). The free kick came in low and never made found its way through the crowd and PSU walked off with the one-goal victory.

The Panthers opened the scoring in the second minute of the game on a chip shot by Karlstrand into the right corner. Senior Adam Edmunds (Wilton, N.H.) found Karlstrand in the middle of the box to pick up the assist.

Karlstrand looked to extend the lead on his own in the 62nd minute before being dragged down while dishing the ball to Viktor Nilsson (Stockholm, Sweden), who tapped it in for the eventual game-winning goal.

Daniel Webster needed only 40 seconds to cut the deficit in half on a goal by Ian Hutchinson (Litchfield, N.H.) in a crowded box. Hutchinson collected the ball turned and fired into the upper right corner of the net.

Lindeberg finished with five saves for PSU, while junior Sean Hamilton (Brookline, N.H.) stopped four shots in the Eagles goal.

Daniel Webster falls to 2-1 while PSU improves to 2-1. Plymouth State heads to Bridgewater State Saturday while the Eagles return home to host Framingham State.
