Rutherford scores second-half game-winner for Panthers

            HENNIKER, N.H. – Junior Nick Rutherford (Sydney, Australia) scored the game-winning goal for Plymouth State University in the 50th minute Sunday afternoon as the Panthers edged New England College, 2-1, in non-conference men's soccer action at Melander Field.

HIGHLIGHTS

* NEC had a 15-9 advantage in shots, including an 8-1 margin in the second half.

* The Pilgrims struck first in the 30th minute of play as sophomore Cooper Valinski slipped a pass through two Panther defenders to find junior Brian Jumpp, who would net his first goal of the season.  Plymouth State answered back just six minutes later as freshman Truls Julseth (Fredrikstad, Norway) gathered a loose ball and floated a shot over NEC keeper Dylan Mix knotting the game at 1-1.

* PSU netted what would be the eventual game-winner in the 50th minute of play as Rutherford took a free kick that ricocheted off the crossbar and bounced off Mix's back and in. 

* PSU senior GK Felix Lindeberg (Stockholm, Sweden) made five saves in the win; NEC's Mix finished the game with six saves.
