Panthers look to regroup on Sunday

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Plymouth State University men's soccer team battled Bridgewater State University through a scoreless first half before ultimately succumbing to the Bears in a 3-0 non-conference loss.

BSU broke the scoreless tie in the 60th minute on a goal by Filipe Gomes. Gomes received a pass from Jameson Bradley over the middle and buried it into the far side of the net. Sixteen minutes later Bridgewater State capitalized on a pass from Kane Moran who found Kessy Alves behind the defense to score on an easy shot from the left side of the frame. Kevin Roberts added the last goal in the 81st minute to cap the scoring.

Plymouth State's best scoring opportunity came late in the second half on a free kick, but a shot by senior Nick Rutherford (Sydney, Australia) was smothered by Bear's goalkeeper Nate Morgado.

Senior Jimmy Mansour (Auburn, N.H.) and sophomore Owen Caggiano (Sandwich, Mass.) split the game in goal for the Panthers. Mansour played the first 45 minutes and made two saves. Caggiano relieved Mansour in the second half and recorded a pair of saves.

With the setback, the Panthers fall to 1-2 on the season. Plymouth State hosts defending NCAA Division III champions, Tufts University, Sunday (Sept. 10) at 4:00 p.m. at Arold Field.
