Rutherford, Ljunglof set to represent Panthers among New England seniors
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Two members of the Plymouth State University men's soccer team have been selected to compete in the annual New England Intercollegiate Soccer League (NEISL) Senior All-Star Game.
Seniors Nick Rutherford (Sydney, Australia) and Erik Ljunglof (Orebro, Sweden) were both chosen to compete for the NEISL White team in the yearly contest featuring the top seniors among New England NCAA Division III men's soccer teams. The match will be played at Brandeis University in Waltham, Mass., on Sunday (Nov. 26) with kickoff set for 1:00 p.m.
Rutherford is one of the most highly decorated players to don a Plymouth State uniform. He is a three-time Academic All-District First Team member (2015-17) and went on to earn Academic All-American status last fall. The 2017 Academic All-America team will be announced in December.
The 5-11 forward was the top goal scorer for the Panthers in each of his four seasons. He ends his career second all-time with 28 career assists, while his 88 career points are sixth most in PSU men's soccer history. He also scored 30 career goals, the seventh most in program history.
Ljunglof was second on the team in scoring in 2017. The midfielder increased his offensive presence in each of his four years, ending this fall with career highs of four goals and nine points. He didn't miss a single match over his four years, appearing in 66 total games.
The Panthers ended the year with a 6-10 overall record, while going 3-4 in the Little East Conference (LEC). PSU narrowly missed the LEC playoffs after falling by a slim 3-2 margin to Rhode Island College on the final day of the regular season with the winning team guaranteed a playoff spot.
