PSU Men’s Soccer player captures All-LEC honor

Shaw voted to Second Team for second straight year

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The senior captain of the Plymouth State University men's soccer team was one of 24 student-athletes chosen for All-Little East Conference recognition as the conference released its men's soccer major award winners and all-conference teams on Wednesday.

Senior defender Dan Shaw (Winchester, England) was selected to the All-LEC Second Team following a vote of the league's nine head coaches.

Shaw, a three-year captain, started all 15 games for the Panthers totaling two goals and an assist while anchoring the Plymouth State defense. At 6-3, he provided size in the box during PSU's set corners perfectly demonstrated by his one goal, one assist performance in a 3-3 double overtime draw at New England College on Sept. 3.

Shaw relied on his size to get his head on a perfectly delivered corner in the 60th minute to erase a 2-1 deficit, and 12 minutes later his header off a corner kick went to the far post where junior Joni Hongisto (Kaarina, Finland) deposited it for a 3-2 lead.

He also scored on a header from a corner kick in the Panthers' 2-0 shutout of Northern Vermont University – Lyndon on Oct. 17.

Shaw also earned Second Team honors a year ago.

Under the direction of 17-year head coach Rob Wright, Plymouth State finished 5-7-3 and 1-5-2 in the LEC while being eliminated from postseason contention on the final day of the regular season. PSU played five double overtime games, going 0-2-3, and suffered a pair of one-goal losses in conference action.
