Brunnette finishes runner-up in 3,000m; Bartlett fourth in 1,000m

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Freshmen Sam Brunnette (Newport, Vt.) and Warren Bartlett (Loudon, N.H.) had outstanding performances Saturday to represent Plymouth State University on the second and final day of the ECAC Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Ocean Breeze Park Track and Field Athletic Complex.

Brunnette turned in an impressive performance in the 3000 meter race, finishing runner-up in a time of 8:31.20, six seconds behind the champion Jeremy Hernandez of Ramapo, who finished in 8:25.18. Brunnette dropped eight seconds off his previous best time, weathering an aggressive pace and moving up through the field in the last thousand meters.

Bartlett also was impressive for PSU in the 1000 meters, placing fourth overall in a time of 2:31.78, dropping two and a half seconds off his previous personal best. Ethan Vinson of Plattsburgh State won the race in 2:29.24.

PSU was also well represented in two events on Friday, as its distance medley relay team of Bartlett, freshman Kyle Saunders (Hudson, N.H.), sophomore Brendan Polichronopoulos (Penacook, N.H.) and Brunnette placed fifth out of 14 schools, and freshman Isaiah Bolden (Dover, N.H.) finished in 16th place out 24 sprinters in the 60 meter dash.

PSU tied with Lebanon Valley College and Farmingdale State for 18th in the final team standings with 17 points, with 50 schools scoring at least one point. Rowan University captured the team title with 84 points, with Bowdoin College runner-up with 74.

This event completes the indoor season for Plymouth State; the Panthers will open the outdoor track and field season on Saturday, Apr. 2, at the UMass Dartmouth Corsair Classic.

Plymouth State reinstated men's track and field this season after a 25-year hiatus. The Panthers are led by head coach John Ostler.
