PSU Men’s Indoor Track & Field contends at Wesleyan Invitational

Davies, Lewis earn fourth place finishes

            MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – Freshman Terrell Lewis (Nashua, N.H.) and sophomore Derek Davies (Londonderry, N.H.) earned fourth place finishes in their respective events as the Plymouth State University men's indoor track & field team competed at the Wesleyan University Invitational at Bacon Field House on Saturday.

            The meet was a non-team scoring event featuring 18 NCAA Division III teams from throughout New England and NCAA Division I Bryant University.

            Lewis continued his strong rookie campaign with his fourth place finish in the 60-meter hurdles. He posted the second fastest time in preliminaries (8.70), before running an 8.77 in the finals. Both times met NCAA Division III New England Championships qualifying standards.

            Davies also posted a New England's qualifying mark when competing in the pole vault. He cleared a distance of 4.40 meters (14' 5.25") to set a new personal record and place fourth.

            Freshman Joey Baylus (Loudon, N.H.) was the third Panther to reach qualifying standards while also reaching the 60-meter hurdle finals. Baylus posted an 8.91 in preliminaries before finishing sixth with an 8.96 in the finals. He also posted a personal-best in the long jump covering a distance of 5.61 meters (18' 5.00").

            Junior Isiah Trask (Turner, Maine) qualified for the 60-meter dash finals, finishing eighth in the preliminaries in 7.37, before setting a new personal record of 7.33 to finish eighth in the finals as well.

            PSU performed well in the 800-meter run. Senior Brendan Polichronopoulos (Penacook, N.H.) finished seventh in 2:05.95, while freshman Dylan Guinard (Penacook, N.H.) ended up tenth in 2:08.76.

            Sophomore Noah Byington (Hanscom AFB, Mass.) finished tenth in the mile run in 4:46.87, while classmate Hunter Zabkar (Lee, N.H.) posted a personal-record time of 5:11.05 to finish 20th.

            Other personal records came from freshman Marcus Cryan (Topsfield, Mass.), who ran a 9:25.34 in the 3000-meter run, classmate Ryan Latorella (Loudon, N.H.), who reached a distance of 10.29 meters (33' 9.25") in the weight throw, and sophomore Devin Wells (Yreka, Calif.), who reached 9.14 meters (30' 0.00") in the weight throw.

            Freshman Austin Reynolds (Old Saybrook, Conn.) set two personal-bests on the day. He finished 12th in the triple jump with a leap of 12.16 meters (39' 10.75") and ended 27th in the long jump after covering a distance of 5.50 meters (18' 0.50").

            The Panthers also sent juniors Warren Bartlett (Loudon, N.H.) and Sam Brunnette (Newport Center, Vt.) to compete at the Tufts Cupid Challenge, where Brunnette finished fourth in the 3000-meter run in a time of 8:29.97. Bartlett competed in the mile run, finishing 19th with a time of 4:31.59.

            The Panthers will compete in the Little East Conference and New England Alliance Championships on Saturday at Rhode Island College.
