Bartlett posts 40th fastest time of the year while setting new school record in mile run

BOSTON, Mass. – Junior Warren Bartlett (Loudon, N.H.) set a school record and new personal best in the mile run as four members of the Plymouth State University men's indoor track and field team competed at the Boston University Last Chance Invitational at the BU Track & Tennis Center on Sunday.

The meet was a non-team scoring event compiled of athletes from all three NCAA divisions and a number of unattached competitors.

Bartlett, who set the previous school record at the Tufts Final Qualifier last March, cruised through the finish to post a time of 4:14.17. His time topped the previous mark by 0.28 seconds and is the 40th fastest mile time among all NCAA DIII runners in the nation this year.

Also competing for the Panthers were freshmen Terrell Lewis (Nashua, N.H.) and Joey Baylus (Loudon, N.H.) in the 60-meter hurdles, and sophomore Derek Davies (Londonderry, N.H.) in the pole vault.

Lewis finished fourth in his heat with a time of 8.58, while Baylus was seventh in heat 3 finishing in 9.03 seconds, but neither qualified for the finals. Lewis posted the 14th fastest time on the day, with Baylus ending 21st among the field of 25.

Davies finished sixth in the pole vault, clearing 4.05 meters (13' 3.5").

Next up is the final "last chance" qualifying meet before the national championships. A select group of athletes will compete at the Tufts Last Chance Qualifier next Saturday, hoping to secure a spot for the NCAA Division III Championships in Birmingham, Ala. the following weekend.
