PSU Men’s Indoor Track & Field athletes earn LEC honors

Bartlett, Roper recognized after Panthers' second straight win

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Senior Warren Bartlett (Loudon, N.H.) and freshman Marcus Roper (Cornish, N.H.) were both honored as the Little East Conference (LEC) announced its weekly men's indoor track & field award recipients on Monday.

Bartlett was tabbed the LEC Men's Indoor Track & Field Track Athlete of the Week, while Roper garnered LEC Men's Indoor Track & Field Rookie Field Athlete of the Week honors. It is the first weekly honor for both athletes.

Bartlett was a double winner for the Panthers, capturing the individual title in both the 800-meter run and the mile run at the Middlebury Winter Classic. He topped his own school record in the 800 meters, finishing with a time of 1:58.95 – the 23rd fastest time in the country to date. His winning mile time of 4:22.80 is currently the ninth fastest in the nation.

Roper had an impressive debut in the shot put to place second, shattering a 48-year old school record in the process. His throw of 13.85 meters topped the previous record, held by PSU Hall of Fame inductee Bill Stumpf, by 0.09 meters and was good enough to reach New England regional qualifying standards.

Plymouth State accumulated 170 points to post its second straight team win. The Panthers head to Smith College on Saturday (Jan. 19) for the Smith Invitational.
