PSU Men’s Indoor Track & Field athlete recognized by LEC

Brunnette tabbed Track Athlete of the Week after strong showing 

            PLYMOUTH, N.H. – After a stellar performance at his latest meet, senior Sam Brunnette (Newport Center, Vt.) earned Little East Conference (LEC) weekly recognition the league announced on Monday.

            Brunnette was named the LEC Men's Indoor Track & Field Track Athlete of the Week for the second time in three weeks after a stellar performance at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational at Boston University on Saturday.

            Brunnette was the top NCAA Division III finisher in the 3000-meter run while posting the second fastest time in the nation. His time of 8:16.84 set a new school record as well, topping his own previous mark by nearly 3.5 seconds.

            The standout is eyeing a third straight trip to the NCAA Division III Men's Indoor Track & Field Championships next month, but next up is a chance to defend his LEC titles. He has captured the 3,000-meter crown for three straight years and is also the defending champion in the mile run.

            The Panthers will host the LEC / New England Alliance Championship on Saturday (Feb. 16) at the Bank of New Hampshire Field House at ALLWell North, with the first events set for 11:00 a.m.
