Rigoli named Field Athlete of the Week, Panthers' 4x400 relay honored

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Sophomore Jacob Rigoli (Essex, Vt.) and the Plymouth State University men's indoor track & field 4x400 relay team were both honored by the Little East Conference (LEC) on Monday as the league announced its weekly award winners.

Rigoli was named the Field Athlete of the Week, while the Panthers' 4x400 meter relay team was honored as the Relay Team of the Week, after both had impressive showings at the season-opening PSU Winter Classic on Saturday.

Rigoli set a new school record with a toss of 15.56 meters in the weight throw to lead a dynamic performance by the Panthers' throwers. He also placed second in the shot put after reaching 13.47 meters. His program-best weight throw cleared the previous mark by 0.79 meters.

Plymouth State's 4x400 meter relay squad of sophomores CJ Miller (Branford, Conn.) and Owen Wilcox (Eastham, Mass.) and seniors Leo Shattuck (Grafton, Mass.) and Nate Belanger (Newmarket, N.H.) topped the field, which included NCAA Division II Franklin Pierce, with a time of 3:39.72.

PSU amassed 194 points to finish second at the meet, leading all D-III programs and trailing just Franklin Pierce.

The Panthers are back in action at the Middlebury Winter Classic on Jan. 11.
