PSU Men’s Indoor Track & Field tied for tenth at New England Regionals

Baker matches program record, earns All-New England in pole vault on day one 

            SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Freshman Mikey Baker (Westford, Vt.) matched the program record in the pole vault to highlight the Plymouth State University men's indoor track & field team's first day of competition at the NCAA Division III New England Regional Championship at Springfield College on Friday.

            Baker cleared 4.40 meters for the second time this season to match the school record originally set two years ago. Also in action for the Panthers was the distance medley relay team, competing for the first time this year.

            Plymouth State wrapped up day one of competition tied for tenth with two points. Williams College leads the team scoring with 28 points in the first day. The bulk of PSU's athletes will compete during day two tomorrow (Feb. 29) starting at 11:00 a.m.

 

            The Basics:

            NCAA Division III New England Regional Championship – T-10th

 

            How it Happened:

  • Baker matched his performance from Jan. 25 after clearing 4.40 meters to finish seventh in the pole vault to secure the Panthers' point total for the day. His performance was good enough for All-New England honors.
  • Senior Noah Byington (Hanscom AFB, Mass.), freshman Luke Gomes (Litchfield, N.H.), sophomore Matt Lyle (Loudon, N.H.) and freshman Michael Olson (Sutton, Mass.) teamed up to run the distance medley relay for the first time this year. The quartet finished 12th overall and third in section 1 with a time of 10:51.04.

 

            Up Next:

  • Plymouth State will have competitors in the weight throw, shot put, 60m hurdles, 800m run, triple jump and 4x800m relay to close out the meet tomorrow (Feb. 29) starting at 11:00 a.m.
