Wyland honored in Women's Basketball; Five recognized in Track & Field
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Several Plymouth State University student-athletes were honored by the Little East Conference (LEC) Monday with top weekly honors for their performances in intercollegiate competition last week.
Junior Kayla Wyland (Melrose, Mass.) was named LEC Women's Basketball Player of the Week, and freshman Isaiah Bolden (Dover, N.H.) was named LEC Men's Rookie Track and Field Athlete of the Week. In addition, PSU's women's 4x200 relay team of freshman Brianna Warnick (Derry, N.H.), senior Cierra Dion (Manchester, N.H.), and freshmen Diana Perez (Cranston, R.I.) and Amanda Bomely (Middletown, Conn.) was selected the LEC Women's Relay Team of the Week.
A 5'11" forward, Wyland averaged 24.0 points and 11.0 rebounds per game in a 1-1 week for PSU, shooting 50 percent from the field (17-of-34) and 73.7 percent from the free throw line. She tallied 23 points and 14 rebounds Tuesday in a home loss to Lasell and added 25 points and eight rebounds Saturday in a win over Salem State.
A volleyball team standout in the fall, Wyland is second in scoring on the women's basketball team, averaging 11.2 points per game this season and leading the Panthers with 7.1 rebounds per contest. She ranks 12th in the LEC in scoring and tied for ninth in rebounding.
A 5'8" rookie, Bolden was a standout for PSU with a pair of first-place finishes in the first home meet at the new George Davis Track as the Panthers dropped a dual meet to Colby-Sawyer College. He won the long jump with a leap of 6.5 meters, and he crossed the finish line first in the 60-meter high hurdles in a time of 8.99 seconds. Both marks were good enough to meet the Little East and New England Division III Championship meet standards. Bolden also led off the 4x200 relay for the Panthers.
The Panther women's 4x200 meter relay team finished the meet in grand style with a victory in the tri-meet, as PSU outscored Colby-Sawyer but lost to Southern New Hampshire University.
