Dolecki and Bolden represent Panthers on Day One
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Plymouth State University men's track & field team was represented in two events Friday on the first day of the New England Division III Championships, hosted by Springfield College.
Freshman Evan Dolecki (New Hartford, Conn.) placed 16th out of 20 competitors in the long jump, and classmate Isaiah Bolden (Dover, N.H.) finished in 27th place out of 34 sprinters in the 100 meter dash trials. Dolecki was fourth in his event among freshmen, and Bolden was ninth fastest among rookies in the 100.
Dolecki's top jump was a leap of 6.27 meters (20-feet, 7-inches) on his third and final attempt. It was a little shy of his qualifying mark of 6.41 meters (21-feet, one half-inch) set last month. Bolden ran the 100 in 11.58 seconds, 0.35 off his seed time of 11.23.
PSU will be represented in four more individual events and two relays in Saturday's competition -- Bolden in the 110 meter high hurdles; freshman Warren Bartlett (Loudon, N.H.) in the 1500 meters; freshman Sam Brunnette (Jericho, Vt.) in the 3000 meter steeplechase; freshman Matt Elsker (Pittsfield, Mass.) in the pole vault; and the 4x100 and 4x800 meter relays.
The Panthers are in their first season since reinstating the sport as a varsity program. Plymouth State had men's track and field in the late 1960s and 1970s before discontinuing the program prior to the 1980 season.
