Brunnette and Bartlett post solid finishes for Panthers
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Plymouth State University men's track & field team was represented in three individual events and two relays Saturday on the final day of the New England Division III Championships, hosted by Springfield College.
Freshmen Sam Brunnette (Jericho, Vt.) and Warren Bartlett (Loudon, N.H.) were the top individual finishers for PSU. Brunnette finished in 16th place in the 3000 meter steeplechase in a season-best time of 9:56.60, and Bartlett took 25th place in the 1500 meters in a time of 4:11.61. Brunnette was second among freshmen in the steeplechase and Bartlett was eighth among rookies in the 1500. Freshman Matt Elsker (Pittsfield, Mass.) also represented PSU in the pole vault, but did not meet the starting height of 3.90 meters (12-feet, 9.5 inches).
The Panthers had two relay teams in the competition. The 4x100 meter squad of freshmen Isiah Trask (Turner, Maine) and Cam Atherton (Rowley, Mass.), junior George Speechley (Barrington, N.H.) and freshman Isaiah Bolden (Dover, N.H.) placed ninth in a time of 44.74 seconds, and the 4x8000 meter contingent of sophomore Brendan Polichronopoulos (Penacook, N.H.), Bartlett, and freshmen Cameron Pavao (Methuen, Mass.) and Kyle Saunders (Hudson, N.H.) placed 11th in a season-best time of 8:03.33.
PSU also had two competitors on Friday, as freshman Evan Dolecki (New Hartford, Conn.) placed 16th in the long jump and Bolden finished in 27th place in the 100 meter dash trials.
The Panthers completed their first season since reinstating the sport as a varsity program. Plymouth State had men's track and field in the late 1960s and 1970s before discontinuing the program prior to the 1980 season.
