Bartlett recognized in Men's Track, Allaire in Women's Diving, Economos in Men's Ice Hockey
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Three Plymouth State University student-athletes were recognized Monday with weekly recognition from the Little East Conference (LEC) and the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) for their performances in Panther contests last week.
Sophomore Warren Bartlett (Loudon, N.H./Bishop Brady) was named LEC Men's Indoor Track & Field Track Athlete of the Week, and freshman Casey Allaire (Mattapoisett, Mass./Bishop Stang) was named LEC Women's Rookie Diver of the Week. On the MASCAC side, senior Michael Economos (Crystal Lake, Ill.) earned a spot on the Men's Ice Hockey Weekly Honor Roll.
A sophomore middle distance runner, Bartlett was the top Division III finisher among the 43 entries in the mile run at the Dartmouth College Indoor Classic last Saturday. He finished fourth overall in a school-record time of 4:17.30, the top time among Little East Conference runners this season. Bartlett's time ranks 22nd nationally among Division III runners this season, and second among sophomores. Bartlett's performance breaks the Plymouth State indoor mile record set in the late 1970s by former All-American Dave Severance (4:18.2).
The Panther track & field teams will be in Gorham, Maine, this Saturday, Feb. 11, for the Little East Championships and New England Alliance Championships, hosted by the University of Southern Maine, beginning at 11:00 a.m.
A freshman diver, Allaire put forth a strong effort for the Panthers at the Little East Conference Swimming & Diving Championships last Saturday at UMass Dartmouth. The rookie finished second in the 3-meter diving with 206.10 points after a third-place finish in the 1-meter diving with a score of 217.00. This is her third LEC Rookie Diver of the Week honor of the season.
The Panthers swimmers and divers, who completed the dual meet season with a 5-4 record, wind up the season on Feb. 17-19, at the New England Intercollegiate Swimming & Diving Association (NEISDA) Championships at the University of Rhode Island.
A 6'1, 215-pounder, Economos tallied a goal and two assists in the Panthers' only game last week, a 6-3 victory at UMass Dartmouth. He assisted on the first goal in the first period, scored a second-period goal to put PSU up 4-1 and assisted on the final goal in the third period. Economos, a three-time honoree of MASCAC weekly honors this season, ranks third in the conference with 12 goals and fourth with 21 points.
The Panthers, 13-5-2 overall and atop the MASCAC with an 11-1-1 mark, play a pair of conference games this week, Thursday at home against second-place Salem State University (6:00 p.m.) and Saturday at Framingham State University (7:50 p.m.)
