PSU Men’s Track & Field Student-Athletes receive LEC weekly honors

Brunnette, Davies recognized for Panthers

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Two Plymouth State University student-athletes were recognized Monday with weekly recognition from the Little East Conference (LEC) for their performances in the LEC Men's Indoor Track & Field Championships last Saturday.

Sophomore Sam Brunnette (Newport, Vt.) was named LEC Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week, and freshman Derek Davies (Londonderry, N.H.) was selected LEC Men's Field Athlete of the Week. They helped the Panthers to a third-place finish among seven schools at Saturday's LEC Championships.

A sophomore distance runner, Brunnette won two LEC and New England Alliance individual championships. He captured his second straight LEC and Alliance indoor title in the 3000 meters, and earned his first championship in the mile run. He completed the mile in a personal-best 4:17.78, the eighth fastest time in New England this season, and ran the 3000 in 8:49.45, more than four seconds faster than last year's win.

A freshman pole vaulter, Davies turned in a top-notch performance for PSU in the pole vault, placing third in the Alliance scoring and second among LEC vaulters. His mark of 4.10 meters (13'5.25") matched his season-high and school record and is ranked 17th in New England this season.

Brunnette and Davies and some of their teammates will compete in the New England Division III Championships this Saturday at Tufts University.
