PSU Men’s Outdoor Track & Field take second at Tufts

Trask, Bartlett, Lewis shine at Sunshine Classic

MEDFORD, Mass. – Juniors Isiah Trask (Turner, Maine) and Warren Bartlett (Loudon, N.H.) and freshman Terrell Lewis (Nashua, N.H.) all won individual events to lead the Plymouth State University men's outdoor track and field team to a second place finish at the Sunshine Classic at Dussault Track at Tufts University on Saturday.

Trask was excellent in the sprints, finishing first in both the preliminaries and finals of the 100 meter dash, and taking second in the 200 meter dash while posting personal records in both events. His qualifying time of 11.39 seconds in the 100 was the top mark and he followed with a personal-best 11.32 seconds time in the finals to take the title. His time of 23.01 in the 200 meters was also a personal record and was good enough for second place.

Lewis had strong showings in all three of his events. He qualified second in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 15.43 seconds, then turned on the jets in the finals to win in a personal-best time of 15.19 seconds. Lewis also posted a PR in the long jump, covering 6.55 meters (21' 6") to finish third and added a second place finish in the high jump, clearing 1.83 meters (6' 0").

Bartlett earned his tile in the 1,500 meter run with a season best time of 4:02.23 to cross the finish line more than a second ahead of his closest competition.

The trio were hardly the only Panthers to have strong showings, though. Freshman Joey Baylus (Loudon, N.H.) continued his strong rookie campaign with a pair of personal records in his three events. He qualified for the finals of the 110 meter hurdles in third with a time of 15.82 seconds, then claimed third in the finals with a PR 15.61 seconds, while also taking fifth in the 200 meter dash with a personal best time of 23.19 seconds. Baylus also finished eighth in the long jump covering 6.11 meters (20' 0.50").

Junior Sam Brunnette (Newport Center, Vt.) finished second in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with his best time of the season. He finished in 9:33.47, more than six seconds ahead of his previous best this spring.

Sophomore Derek Davies (Londonderry, N.H.) tied his season best by clearing 4.25 meters (13' 11.25") in the pole vault to earn a second place finish.

The Panthers had three strong performances in the triple jump as PSU finished four, five and six. Freshman Austin Reynolds (Old Saybrook, Conn.) led the trio with a jump of 12.10 meters (39' 8.50"), with junior Evan Dolecki (New Hartford, Conn.) and freshman Gunnar Consol (Homosassa, Fla.) right behind with leaps of 11.92 meters (39' 1.25") and 11.91 meters (39' 1").

Other Panther highlights included freshman Noah Williams (Rochester, N.H.), who finished sixth in the finals of the 100 meters in a PR time of 11.84 seconds, sophomore Hunter Zabkar (Lee, N.H.), who took fifth in the 5,000 meter run in 17:52.23, sophomore Zach Bassett (Pascoag, R.I.), who finished seventh in the finals of the 110 meter hurdles in 16.18 seconds, sophomore Nate Belanger (Newmarket, N.H.), who ended seventh in the 800 meter run in 2:10.09 and fourth in the javelin throw (42.46 meters, 139' 4") and senior Dean Squires Jr. (Derry, N.H.) who finished third in the javelin with a throw of 43.76 meters (14' 7").

Plymouth State will compete at the Little East Conference and New England Alliance Championships on Saturday (Apr. 28) at Bridgewater State University.
