Byington sets PR in 1500m, Brunnette takes third in 5000m
NEW LONDON, Conn. – Junior Noah Byington (Hanscom AFB, Mass.) and senior Sam Brunnette (Newport Center, Vt.) both performed well representing the Plymouth State University men's outdoor track & field team at the Silfen Invitational at Connecticut College on Friday night.
The elite distance events features some of the top runners in New England on an invitational basis. Byington ran the 1500m in personal best time, while Brunnette finished third in his season debut in the 5000m.
Silfen Invitational – No Team Scoring
How it Happened:
* Byington crossed the line in 4:09.31 to finish 22nd in the 1500m. He shaved more than six seconds off his time from two weeks ago, while topping his former personal best by 0.79 seconds.
* Brunnette took third in the 5000m with a time of 14:42.62 to meet the qualifying standards for the NCAA Division III New England Championships next month. His time is currently just outside the top-ten in the nation.
Straight from the Coach's Mouth:
"Noah continues his hot streak," said head coach John Ostler. "He's really stepped up so far this outdoor season. Sam went toe-to-toe with some great runners. He'll be better in the championship races later this season for having raced this race."
* The rest of the Panthers will compete at the Penmen Relays at Southern New Hampshire University on Saturday (Apr. 13).
