Brunnette named Track Athlete of the Week

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Following a strong showing at the Silfen Invitational last Friday, a member of the Plymouth State University men's outdoor track & field program was honored by the Little East Conference (LEC) on Monday when the league announced its weekly award winners.

Senior Sam Brunnette (Newport Center, Vt.) was named the LEC Men's Outdoor Track & Field Field Track Athlete of the Week after an impressive performance among the top runners in New England.

Competing in the elite distance events, which featured "by invitation only" athletes from throughout New England, Brunnette finished third in the 5,000-meter run on Friday night. He crossed the finish line in 14:42.62, just 0.61 seconds behind the second place finisher and 1.70 seconds off the pace of the leader. His time currently ranks as the 21st fastest in all of Division III and easily reached the qualifying time for NCAA Division III New England Regionals next month.

Brunnette and the Panthers head to Tufts University on Saturday (Apr. 20) for the Sunshine Classic, one final tune-up leading into the LEC Championships at the end of the month.
