KEENE, NH -- Kara Suhie (Old Saybrook, CT) pitched a complete game two-hitter and helped herself at the plate with a key two-run single in the third inning to lead Keene State College to a 5-0 victory over Plymouth State in the quarterfinal Little East Conference Softball Tournment game played Wednesday in Keene, NH.
Keene State (18-13-1) will now advance to the semifinals of the Tournament and will play the winner of the Eastern Connecticut/Rhode Island College game, Friday at 10 a.m. at Southern Maine. Plymouth State's record goes to 14-21-1.
Keene State went ahead 3-0 in the second inning on an RBI double by Liane Blad (Keene, NH) and a two-run single by Suhie. The Owls added two more runs in the fifth inning on run-producing singles by Beth Ponte (Bristol, CT) and Blad. Blad, the Owls' sophomore catcher finished the game with two hits and two RBI's.
Kristen Bailey (Jaffrey, NH) went three-for-four while Carrah Fisk (Keene, NH) had two hits for KSC. Suhie, who struck out eight batters, improves her record to 10-5.
PSC's best opportunity to score in the game came in the top of the second inning. With Panther runners on second and third, Suhie struck out Sarah Jarry (Hudson, NH). PSC starting pitcher Amanda Murphy's (Collinsville, CT) record falls to 8-10.
