PSC Softball opens 2-0 in Florida
FORT MYERS, Florida - Senior Jen Moulton (Bow, NH) and freshman Lyndsy Patten (Ellsworth, Maine) tossed back-to-back shutouts Sunday as Plymouth State College's softball team opened the 2000 campaign with a pair of victories in the annual Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic.
The Panthers opened the season with a 5-0 victory over Bowdoin College, and came back with a 2-0 triumph over Union College. PSC, 2-0, will play 10 games in Florida this week, concluding with a pair of contests Friday morning.
In the opener, Moulton allowed just three hits in posting her fourth career shutout. Junior Kelly Anderson (Exeter, NH) led the Panther offense, going 3-for-3, while sophomore Kristen Fusick (Windsor Locks, Conn.) and freshman Steph Marsland (Cumberland, RI) each had two hits in three at bats.
Patten, a freshman southpaw, surrendered just two hits in her collegiate debut for PSC, a triple and single to Union's Jillian Ring. PSC scored the only run it would need in the first inning, and added an insurance tally in the fourth. Anderson knocked in one run for the Panthers, and Fusick and freshman Lynsey Hoyt (Franklin, NH) each contributed a double.
