PSC Softball eliminated from LEC Tourney
PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Third-seeded Rhode Island College defeated sixth-seeded Plymouth State College 3-0 Tuesday afternoon to advance to the double-elimination round of the Little East Conference Softball Tournament.
This is the first time the Anchorwomen have advanced past the first round of the LEC Tournament. The win gave RIC its 23rd victory of the season (23-15), a new single-season school record. PSC completes is season at 15-20.
The Anchorwomen scored all three of their runs in the third inning. Meaghan Davis pushed a bunt past the right side of the infield to plate Michelle Fanelli, who scored the eventual game-winning run.
Lea Wiggins allowed only four hits, striking out two, to earn her third shutout victory of the season. She improves to 12-10 on the year.
Senior starter Heather Gadourey (North Billerica, Mass.) took the loss for the Panthers, falling to 5-5 on the year. Freshman Steph Marsland (Cumberland, RI) was a bright spot for PSC, going 3-for-3 in a losing effort.
RIC will face No.2 seeded Southern Maine on Friday, while Keene State will battle top-seeded Western Connecticut. The weekend LEC Tournament is a double-elimination affair with games Friday and Saturday (May 5-6).
