Panthers sweep UMB in season finale
BOSTON, Mass - Plymouth State College swept a Little East Conference softball doubleheader from the University of Massachusetts Boston Saturday at the Clark Athletic Center. PSC won the opener 10-2 and UMB forfeited the nightcap.
The Panthers complete their season with four straight victories and wins in six of their last eight contests. PSC finishes the campaign at 10-20 overall and 4-10 in the LEC under interim head coach Harry Blood. UMass Boston ends its season at 1-19 and 0-14.
Sophomore Adriene Harvey (Nantucket, Mass.) led the Panthers in the first game with three hits and three runs scored, driving in two runs with a single in PSC's four-run fourth inning. Senior Steph Ruel (Biddeford, Maine) knocked in three runs, two on a single in the fourth inning, and freshman Kristin Balles (Bedford, N.H.) chipped in with two hits, including a double, and two runs batted in.
Sophomore Lyndsy Patten (Ellsworth, Maine) earned the victory for the Panthers, going five innings and allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits, striking out six.
Freshman Michelle Knox (Gilmanton, N.H.) went 2-for-4 to finish the season with the team's highest batting average (.375). She also led the Panthers in doubles (7) and RBI (10).
