FT. MYERS, Fla. - Sophomore pitcher Kim Jeffs (Stoughton, Mass.) tossed a pair of shutouts Monday evening, leading the Plymouth State College softball team to consecutive victories over Grinnell College, 2-0, and Wisconsin-Oshkosh, 3-0, at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic.
Jeffs allowed only two hits while striking out 12 in the victory over Grinnell. She came back with 12 more strikeouts against UW-Oshkosh, surrendering only four hits. Jeffs (4-0 with four shutouts) has struck out 44 batters in her first four outings, allowing just eight hits and no runs in 26 innings.
PSC got the only run it would need against Grinnell on back-to-back doubles by senior Adriene Harvey (Nantucket, Mass.) and sophomore Annie Metz (Chelmsford, Mass.) in the second inning. Harvey singled and came around to score an insurance run in the sixth.
Harvey clouted a two-run homer in the first inning of the Oshkosh game, her first round-tripper of the season and one of two hits in the game. Junior Maria Curran (Scarborough, Maine) added an RBI double in the seventh inning for the Panthers.
PSC continues the 10-game Florida trip Tuesday with a pair of games against Wheaton College and Mount Holyoke
