PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Plymouth State College softball pitcher Kim Jeffs has been named the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division III Co-Player of the Week for the week of March 16-23 by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.
A sophomore from Stoughton, Mass., Jeffs went 8-1 with a 0.25 ERA as Plymouth State posted a 9-1 record in the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic in Ft. Myers, Fla. She tossed five shutouts in nine appearances (eight starts), including a five-inning no-hitter against Framingham State. Jeffs shared the honor with Coast Guard's Leslie Kagami.
For the week, Jeffs pitched 55.2 innings, allowing only 24 hits and six runs (two earned). She struck out 94 batters while walking three. Jeffs fanned at least 10 batters in her first five appearances (against Smith, Framingham State, Grinnell, Wisconsin-Oshkosh and Wheaton, Mass.) and added 11 whiffs against Brockport State. Her only loss came in extra innings after she had struck out 15 against Wheaton, the top-ranked team in New England.
Jeffs was the NCAA Division III strikeout leader last year with 360, and was named NFCA Third Team All-American.
The Panthers, ranked second in New England, open the Little East Conference portion of the schedule this Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader at UMass Dartmouth.
