PSU Softball falls twice in Florida
FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Plymouth State University softball team had its losing streak extended to four games on Wednesday, falling to Wellesley College, 4-0, and the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, 7-2, in a pair of games at the annual Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic.
PSU produced seven hits off Wellesley College junior Kristie Gola (Bordentown, N.J.) in the first game but couldn't push any runs across the plate. Senior Jess Rousselle (Deerfield, N.H./Coe-Brown) had two hits for PSU, while freshman Danielle Normand (Rumford, R.I./East Providence) cracked a double and classmate Kara Marvelli (Franconia, N.H./Profile) knocked a triple, but Gola struck out eight batters and kept the Panthers off the board.
Senior Kim Jeffs (Stoughton, Mass.) allowed four runs on seven hits and struck out 10 but took the loss to fall to 1-3.
The Panthers had seven more hits and scored two runs in the rain-shortened game against Wisconsin-Whitewater, but the Warhawks, who were 32-14 last season and are off to a 5-3 start this spring, had too much for PSU starter Rose Eaton (Concord, N.H.). Freshman Sarah Schaaf (Monroe, Wis.) highlighted a third-inning rally for UWW with a two-run homer.
Senior Michelle Dubois (Auburn, Maine/Edward Little) and freshman Kristi Curry (Nottingham, N.H./Dover) had two hits apiece against the Warhawks to lead the Panther offense.
PSU, 2-6 overall, wraps up competition for the week on Friday afternoon with games against the University of Chicago and the College of St. Benedict.
