PSU Softball player earns Little East Conference honor

PLYMOUTH, N.H. - One of the freshmen on the Plymouth State University softball team has been selected to the 2006 Little East Conference All-Star Team, as voted by the league's head coaches.

Freshman Leanne Barry (Auburn, N.H./Pinkerton) was named to the All-LEC Second Team as an outfielder, the only Panther to receive All-LEC honors.  Barry had a strong rookie campaign and is one of eight freshmen to be named to the All-Star team.

Barry took over the starting left field and lead-off positions this spring for the Panthers.  She tied for the team lead in batting average (.306) and hits (30) and led the team in runs scored (15) and triples (4).  Barry also collected four doubles, and was the LEC Rookie of the Week in early April.

Barry was one of five Panther freshmen who saw considerable playing time under second-year head coach Bruce Addison, leading the team to an 8-25 overall record and a 3-11 LEC mark.  PSU had a better team than the record indicated, losing 10 games by one or two runs.
