FORT MYERS, Fla.- The Plymouth State University softball team dropped a 7-3 decision to the State College of New York College at Fredonia in its first game on Monday, but rebounded with an 8-2 victory over Lawrence College (Wis.) in the second game.
Fredonia scored two runs in the first inning and added three more in the third en route to a 5-2 lead. PSU had 11 hits but could plate only three runs. Sophomore Leanne Barry (Auburn, N.H./Pinkerton) and junior Danielle Normand (Rumford, R.I./East Providence) led the way with two hits apiece.
The Panther bats came alive in the second game, with four players collecting at least two hits. Normand had two hits, including a three-run home run, and freshman Sammi Romano (Kingston, N.H./Sanborn Regional) had two hits, including a solo home run. Barry and freshman Jenna George (Cumberland, R.I.) both went 2-for-4, with Barry scoring three runs.
Sophomore Courtney MacFarland (Hampstead, N.H./Pinkerton) picked up her second win of the season for PSU with a complete-game effort.
PSU, now 2-3 on the Florida trip, play two more games on Tuesday, meeting Western New England College at 9:00 a.m. and Bowdoin College at 11:00 a.m.
