PLYMOUTH, N.H. - One of the starting outfielders on the Plymouth State University softball team was recognized Monday with one of the top weekly honors from the Little East Conference.
Sophomore Leanne Barry (Auburn, N.H./Pinkerton Academy) was selected the LEC Softball Player of the Week, the second Panther in as many weeks to be so honored. Barry joins classmate Rachel Pothier (Reading, Mass.), who was named an LEC Co-Player of the Week seven days ago.
A sophomore left fielder and PSU's lead-off hitter, Barry batted .556 (5-for-9) with three doubles, three runs scored and two RBI as the Panthers split an LEC doubleheader with Eastern Connecticut. She was 2-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI in the first game, a 6-5 Panther win, and she was 3-for-5 with an RBI double and two runs scored in the nightcap, a 10-7 Panther setback. Barry's performance on the day raised her batting average to .286.
Barry was an All-LEC Second Team selection a year ago when she tied for the team lead in batting average (.306) and hits (30) and led the Panthers in runs scored (15) and triples (4).
PSU, which enters the week with an 8-7 overall record, is tied with Eastern Connecticut for third place in the LEC, both with 3-1 conference marks. Keene State College and Rhode Island College share the top spot with 2-0 conference records.
