PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Junior Amanda Berard (Swansea, Mass.) tossed a five-inning perfect game and classmate Chelsi Panarelli (Shrewsbury, Mass.) went 7-for-8 with two home runs and six RBI Saturday afternoon as Rhode Island College swept a Little East Conference softball doubleheader from Plymouth State University, 12-0 and 10-2, at D&M Park.

Berard retired all 15 batters she faced for RIC in the opener, striking out three and improving her record to 8-3.  Senior pitcher Jenna Deveines (Lowville, N.Y.) remained undefeated (9-0) for RIC with a complete-game effort in the nightcap, allowing just one earned run in five innings.  The doubleheader sweep gives the Anchorwomen seven straight wins and a 22-5 overall record (6-2 in the LEC), while PSU drops to 11-16 overall and 3-5 in the Little East.

Panarelli hit a three-run homer in the first inning of the opener and the Anchorwomen never looked back.  Junior Donielle Mattoon (Coventry, R.I.) and Panarelli hit back-to-back home runs in the second inning to highlight a five-run Anchorwomen rally.  Panarelli finished with three hits and four RBI, while junior Kayla Jandreau (Plainville, Conn.) also had three hits and Mattoon drove in three.

The Anchorwomen scored in all five innings of the nightcap, finishing with 10 runs and 17 hits.  Panarelli and sophomore Cristina Bailey (Londonderry, N.H.) each collected four hits and knocked in two runs, and Jandreau added her second straight three-hit game.  Senior Jackie Dube (Barrington, N.H.) also had a pair of doubles and three RBI.

Senior Kay LaBrie (Somersworth, N.H.) and sophomore Allie Luisi (North Kingstown, R.I.) hit back-to-back doubles in the first inning to provide a Panther highlight.  Junior Kortney Nedeau (Kennebunk, Maine) added an RBI double in the third inning.

RIC returns home to host UMass Boston in an LEC doubleheader on Sunday at 4:00 p.m..  PSU’s make-up LEC twinbill Sunday at Western Connecticut has been postponed again and rescheduled for Sunday, May 2.  The Panthers play next Tuesday at Southern Maine (3:30 p.m.)
