PLYMOUTH, N.H. – One of the leading hitters on the Plymouth State University softball team was recognized Tuesday with selection to the All-Little East Conference Team for 2010, and the entire Panther team was honored by receiving the LEC Team Sportsmanship Award.
Sophomore Allie Luisi (North Kingstown, R.I.) represented Plymouth State on the All-LEC Team as a Second Team outfielder. She enjoyed an outstanding season in the middle of the Panther line-up, leading the team in hitting and setting the school record for doubles in a season.
Luisi (right), who also played catcher for a handful of games, led the Panthers with a .398 batting average as well as topping the team in hits (41), doubles (13) triples (2) and runs scored (23). Her 13 double broke the PSU single-season mark of 12 she previously shared with Kristen Hodsdon (1994), Jen Arrajj (1997) and Adriene Harvey (2002). Luisi ranked ninth in the LEC in batting average, seventh in on-base percentage (.467), and sixth in doubles.
The Panther sophomore had 10 multi-hit games this spring, including a three-hit affair and two-four-hit performances. Her four-hit efforts came in the biggest games of the season for PSU, the second games of doubleheaders against Keene State and Western Connecticut, both victories which proved pivotal in helping the Panthers earn a berth in the LEC Tournament.
PSU finished the season with a 13-22 overall record and a 5-9 mark in the LEC under seventh-year head coach Bruce Addison. The Panthers earned a spot in the LEC Tournament on the final day of the regular season, winning the second game of a doubleheader at WestConn to secure the berth.
