Little East Conference honors for PSU student-athletes
Dube and Hebert earn LEC weekly recognition for Panthers
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Two Plymouth State University student-athletes were honored by the Little East Conference Monday for their performances in Panther victories last week.
Senior Justin Dube (Buzzards Bay, Mass./Bourne) was named LEC Men’s Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week, and freshman Sam Hebert (Manchester, N.H./Memorial) was chosen LEC Softball Rookie of the Week. Dube helped the Panther men to a victory in their only lacrosse game of the week, while Hebert led the Panther softball squad to a 4-2 week.
A senior defender, Dube anchored the PSU defense that allowed only four goals in the Panthers’ only game, a 5-4 LEC victory over Salem State Saturday in the home opener at Panther Field. Dube collected a game-high six ground balls while also causing four Viking turnovers. He helped the Panthers shut down the Viking offense, which was averaging 9.0 goals per game. The Panther defense held a conference opponent to four goals or fewer for the second time in three outings.
The Panther men’s lacrosse team takes a 6-4 overall record and 2-1 conference mark into the final two weeks of the regular season. PSU plays a pair of LEC contests this week, Wednesday at the University of Southern Maine and Saturday at home against the University of Massachusetts Boston.
A freshman first baseman, Hebert batted .588 (10-for-17) in PSU’s 4-2 week (0-2 LEC) with three doubles, a triple, a home run, five runs scored and six RBI. She went 5-for-8 with two doubles and a home run in Tuesday’s doubleheader sweep at Castleton; she was 4-for-6 with a triple and three runs scored in Thursday’s doubleheader sweep at Fitchburg State; and she went 1-for-3 with a double and a walk in a pair of losses to league-leading Eastern Conn. Hebert was also perfect in 38 chances in the field (32 putouts, six assists).
The PSU softball team, 11-12 overall and 1-5 in LEC games, plays four home doubleheaders this week, including two key LEC twinbills. The Panthers will host Lyndon State College on Monday, the University of Southern Maine on Tuesday, Framingham State University of Thursday and the University of Massachusetts Boston on Saturday, all at D&M Park.
