Digman named Rookie of the Week for Panthers
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – One of the top freshmen on the Plymouth State University softball team was honored by the Little East Conference Monday with her selection as the LEC Rookie of the Week.
Freshman Jackie Digman (Burlington, Mass.) earns the top LEC Rookie honor for the Panthers after helping lead the Panthers in 10 games last week, the final week of the regular season. She helped PSU earn a spot in this week’s LEC Championship Tournament.
A freshman outfielder, Digman hit safely in eight of PSU’s 10 games last week, batting .412 (14-of-34) with one home run, six RBI and six runs scored. She had at least two hits in five of the six LEC games, including all four over the weekend when she went 4-for-6 with two walks in a doubleheader against Western Connecticut and 4-for-7 with a walk and two RBI in a twinbill against UMass Boston. She also hit her fifth home run of the season Friday against Framingham State to tie for the team lead and tie for fifth in the conference.
For the season, Digman is batting .306 with 10 extra-base hits (four doubles, a triple and five home runs). She leads the team with 26 runs scored and ranks second with 21 RBI.
PSU will take a 17-20 overall record into this week’s LEC Tournament, hosted by Western Connecticut State University. The Panthers finished 4-10 in the LEC in the regular season and will be the sixth seed in the tournament. PSU meets top-seeded and regular season champion Eastern Connecticut State University in the tourney opener Thursday at noon.
