PSU Softball star receives All-New England recognition
Jackson earns Honorable Mention for Panthers at shortstop
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The star shortstop for the Plymouth State University softball team was honored Friday with selection to the 2012 New England Division III All-Star Team.
Sophomore Bekah Jackson earned Honorable Mention on the All-Star team, which was selected by the New England Intercollegiate Softball Coaches Association. Jackson was honored earlier week as the Little East Conference Rookie of the Year and All-LEC First Team shortstop.
Jackson recorded one of the top individual seasons in Plymouth State softball history in 2012, displaying eye-popping skills at the plate, on the base paths and in the field. She set six single-season school records at the plate this spring and ranks among the conference leaders in just about every offensive category.
The Panther shortstop established new PSU single-season standards for hits (62), runs scored (45), doubles (15), total bases (96), and at bats (144), and she tied the mark for stolen bases (25). She finished the season with a .431 batting average with a league-leading 15 doubles, five home runs, 32 RBI, and 25 stolen bases. The PSU records she broke for hits and runs had stood since 1994. Jackson, who also has outstanding range at shortstop with a strong throwing arm, was a rookie in 2012 because she suffered an injury in the fourth game of her freshman year and missed the rest of the season.
Jackson helped the Panthers to wins in 16 of their last 24 games in 2012, finishing with an overall record of 21-21. PSU finished in a tie for fourth place in the conference with a 7-7 mark and was the fourth seed in the LEC Tournament, its highest seed since 2003. PSU also earned the fourth seed in the ECAC New England Tournament, the program's first post-season berth since 2009.
