ECAC post-season honors for PSU Softball, Lacrosse
Jackson, Bove, Swanson represent Panthers
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Three Plymouth State University student-athletes have received post-season honors from the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC), earning selections to the Division III New England Spring All-Star Teams.
Sophomore Bekah Jackson topped the honors for PSU, earning First Team recognition at shortstop on the All-New England Softball Team, while junior teammate Jenn Bove was a Second Team selection at designated player. Junior Caitlin Swanson represented the Panther women's lacrosse team, earning Second Team All-Star honors at midfield. All three Panthers were named First Team All-Little East Conference last month.
Jackson enjoyed a terrific rookie season at PSU this spring, also earning LEC Rookie of the Year accolades. She finished among the conference leaders in just about every offensive category, sporting a .431 batting average with a league-leading 15 doubles, five home runs, 32 RBI, and 25 stolen bases. Jackson recorded 62 hits and scored 45 runs this spring, breaking PSU school records that had stood since 1994. She also has outstanding range at shortstop with a strong throwing arm. Jackson was a rookie in 2012 because she suffered an injury in the fourth game of her freshman year and missed the rest of the season.
Bove provided a spark at the top of the Panther line-up, using her outstanding speed to get on base and agitate opponents. She batted .306 and drew a team-leading 20 walks, stealing 11 bases and scoring 32 runs, ninth-best in the LEC. Bove also legged out five triples, fourth-most in the conference.
Swanson had another outstanding season for the Panther lax squad, earning the Little East Midfielder of the Year and All-Region honors. She was one of the top scorers in the conference with 39 goals, eight assists and 47 points, and she also contributed outstanding two-way play in the midfield with 46 draw controls and 34 ground balls. Swanson has scored 84 goals with 20 assists over the past two seasons, with 72 draw controls and 59 ground balls.
