PSU Softball players selected All-New England
Jackson, Hebert earn regional honors for Panthers
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Two Plymouth State University softball players were honored over the weekend as the National Fastpitch Coaches Association announced the 2014 Division III All-Region teams.
Senior shortstop Bekah Jackson (Nashua, N.H./North) took top honors for Plymouth State, earning All-New England Second Team recognition, while senior catcher Sam Hebert (Manchester, N.H./Memorial) was an All-New England Third Team choice. The All-Region teams are selected by NFCA member coaches.
Jackson completed an outstanding season for the Panthers, leading the Little East Conference in batting (.473), on-base pct (.546), hits (53), runs scored (42), home runs (13), RBI (44), total bases (109) and slugging (.973). She also ranks in the top 11 nationally in Division III in runs, home runs and RBI per game as well as slugging. A superb defensive shortstop, she set at least 10 PSU season and career records, including career hits (183), runs (145), triples (21), home runs (26), RBI (118) and stolen bases (69).
Hebert excelled at the plate and behind it for the Panthers, earning All-LEC honors at catcher for the third straight season. She was ninth in the league with a .370 batting average and ranked fifth with 11 doubles and eighth with 26 runs batted in. Hebert also etched her name in the PSU record books, setting career standards for games (157), doubles (41), walks (61) and sharing the RBI mark (118) with Jackson.
PSU finished 22-13 overall this year and shared the Little East Conference regular season title with Eastern Connecticut State University, both with 11-3 conference marks. The Panthers, led by 11th-year head coach Bruce Addison, were eliminated on the second day of the LEC Tournament.
