PSU Softball falls twice at Keene State

Davis provides lone highlight for Panthers

KEENE, N.H. – Jen Galavotti hit a go-ahead homerun in the opener, and Molly St. Germain tossed a two-hitter in the nightcap Tuesday afternoon as Keene State College swept a Little East Conference softball doubleheader from Plymouth State University, 3-1 and 6-0, at the Owl Athletic Complex.

The Owls keep their strong season going, improving to 13-11 overall and 7-1 in the Little East, while PSU drops to 8-18 and 1-7. Sophomore Abrie Davis (Amherst, N.H.) provided the highlight for the Panthers with an RBI double in the first game.

Keene's Mariah Crisp scattered five hits and struckout five in a complete game effort in the opener as the Owls came from behind to post their sixth straight conference win. The Panthers had taken a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth when senior Julia Royer (Pawcatuck, Conn.) singled to left and pinch runner Kayla Nester (Fairfax, Vt.) scored on Davis' double to right-center.

Keene State broke through in the sixth.  Morgan Fallon led off with a double to right, and Galavotti hit her fourth homerun of the season, a towering shot over the scoreboard just to the left of center to put Keene State in front for good. KSC added an insurance run when Indorf doubled and scored on Stephanie Long's single up the middle.

Davis singled to lead off the top of the seventh for PSU, but Crisp got a line-out double play ball and a grounder back to the pitcher to end the game.

St. Germain allowed just a pair of singles to junior Katie Kennard (Concord, N.H.) in the nightcap, and hit a solo home run to support her own cause to give the Owls the sweep. St. Germain kept the Panthers off balance throughout, retiring the final 13 batters of the game and allowing one runner to reach third base.

Keene State remains at home for a non-conference doubleheader with Amherst College on Wednesday afternoon. Plymouth State goes on the road to face the University of New England Wednesday at 3 p.m.
