PSU Softball splits Day Six of Florida trip

Panthers fall to Babson before defeating Washington & Jefferson 

            CLERMONT, Fla. – The Plymouth State University softball team split a doubleheader on Thursday on day six of the spring trip to the National Training Center, losing to Babson College in the opener, 11-2, in six innings, and then defeating Washington & Jefferson College in the nightcap, 6-4.

            Junior Abrie Davis (Amherst, N.H.) went 2-for-2 with two RBI's in the first game despite the Panther loss. Babson pitcher Brooke Stock pitched a complete game to lift Babson to the 11-2 victory.

Sophomore Lindsey Hall (Midlothian, Va.) sparked the offense for Plymouth State in game two with two RBI's and a double to help lift the Panthers to a 6-4 victory.

            Plymouth State finished the day 7-5 on the season, while Babson is now 8-3 and Washington & Jefferson is 1-7.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS

* Davis hit an RBI double in the first inning and then picked up another RBI on a single in the third.  

* Babson had eight players pick up at least one RBI

* Stock notched her fifth win going the distance giving up six hits, two earned runs, and throwing six strikeouts.

* Babson sealed the deal in the top of the sixth picking up six runs on seven hits

 

GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS

* Hall's double in the top of the first scored two Panther runs early, she would leader come around and score thanks to a fielder's choice by freshman Jen Landers (Berlin, N.H.)

* Landers and sophomore Cassidy Emerson (Concord, N.H.) both collected their first RBI this season, for Landers her first as a Panther.

* Sophomore Kayla Mathieu (Fairfax, Vt.) went 6.1 innings relinquishing only one earned run to notch her second victory this season.

* Junior Allison Moylan (Methuen, Mass.) faced the last three batters to capture her first career Plymouth State save.

 

NEXT GAME

* The Panthers will play their final two games of the trip on Friday, March 24, when they battle Middlebury College at 9:00 a.m., followed by Luther College at 11:30 a.m.
