Miller named Pitcher of the Week following sweep of UMass Boston
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The top pitcher for the Plymouth State University softball team earned Little East Conference (LEC) honors after her strong performance over the weekend led to a pair of wins for the Panthers the league office announced on Monday.
Junior Caitlyn Miller (Lee, N.H.) appeared in both games of the twin bill against the University of Massachusetts Boston, picking up the complete game win in game one and closing out the sweep with two innings of work in the nightcap to claim LEC Softball Pitcher of the Week honors.
She struck out six, scattering seven hits over seven innings of work while allowing just two runs (one earned) in the opener. Trailing 2-0, the Panthers scored four times in the top of the sixth to pull in front. UMass Boston brought the tying run to the plate with two down in the bottom of the sixth, but Miller induced a fly ball to retire the side. The Beacons attempted to rally again in their final at bat, but Miller worked around a one-out hit to cap off the win with a strikeout.
PSU rallied from a 2-1 deficit in game two with a five-run sixth. Given the lead, Miller came on in relief and shut down the Beacons over the final two innings striking out three while allowing just one baserunner.
Miller currently leads the Little East in innings pitched (54.0) and is second in wins (five), strikeouts (37) and ERA (1.94).
Plymouth State (7-7, 2-0 LEC) visits Salem State for a non-conference double header on Wednesday (Mar. 27) with game one set for a 4:00 p.m. start.
