Deyo named Player of the Week after four straight wins

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The top hitter for the Plymouth State University softball team was among those honored by the Little East Conference (LEC) when the league announced its weekly award winners on Monday.

Senior Ashley Deyo (Dover, N.H.) was named LEC Softball Player of the Week after posting a ridiculous .600/.600/.900 slash line to help the Panthers sweep a pair of double headers.

Deyo went 3-for-3 with a triple, stolen base and two runs scored as the Panthers topped Emerson College on Wednesday, 5-2 and 6-1. She added a 3-for-4 effort in a 6-3 win in game two over regionally-ranked Eastern Connecticut State University on Saturday, smacking a pair of singles and a booming double while driving in two. She played error-free softball while splitting time between catcher and second base.

Deyo has had another outstanding season for the Panthers, ranking towards the top of the league in a number of offensive categories. Her .419 batting average is the fourth-highest in the conference, while she is fourth in hits (44), fifth in on base percentage (.479), sixth in triples (2), and 13th in slugging (.552). She owned a ten-game hitting streak, reached base in 15 consecutive games and has 14 multi-hit games on the season. It is her first weekly honor of the year.

Plymouth State (20-16, 11-5 LEC) is still awaiting its final standings as the regular season wraps up today. The Panthers are guaranteed at least a second place finish, but could earn a third straight regular season title and host the LEC Tournament should Western Connecticut State University top the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth in both games of their double header later this afternoon. Regardless, the Panthers will open the double-elimination LEC Tournament on Thursday (May 2).
