PSC skis well at Brown Winter Carnival
LINCOLN, N.H. - Plymouth State College's skiing teams competed at the Brown University Winter Carnival Saturday at Loon Mountain, with the men's team finishing with its fifth straight victory of the season.
The Panther men are a perfect 5-for-5 in races this season after the win in Saturday's slalom event. PSC finished ahead of runner-up Colby-Sawyer and third-place Boston College.
The PSC women finished third in Saturday's slalom, the first time in five outings this season they have not finished first. Boston College captured the team title, followed by Brown and PSC.
PSC had the individual winner in both races. Senior Anda Curuta (Sibiu, Romania) continued to dominate the women's circuit, capturing first place for the fourth time in five outings this season and the 25th time in 33 collegiate starts. Junior Tim Mitchell (Ashland, Mass.) was the winner in the men's slalom, remaining perfect in three slalom races this season.
Other solid finishers for PSC's women's tean included freshman Whitney Swaffield (Wolfeboro, N.H.), who was 11th, and senior Tara Eretzian (Turner, Maine), who finished 25th. Top men's finishers for the Panthers included senior Fred DeBaets (St. Sauveur, QUE), who was fourth, sophomore Justin Parent (Sanbornville, NH), who was sixth, and freshman Brent Grygiel (Windham, Maine), who placed 12th.
The event continues Sunday at Loon with the men's and women's giant slalom.
