Mitchell receives academic honor
PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Two Plymouth State College student-athletes have received special recognition for their efforts in the classroom as well as the playing fields.
Senior soccer player Simon Sendowski (Gothenburg, Sweden) and junior ski racer Tim Mitchell (Ashland, Mass.) were selected to the Verizon Academic All-America Fall/Winter Team for District I in the College Division. The Verizon Academic All-America Teams are selected by the College Sports Information Directors of American (CoSIDA).
Sendowski and Mitchell and the other nine selections from District I advance to the Verizon Academic All-America national ballot.
An All-Little East Conference and All-New England soccer defender, Sendowski has a 3.88 grade point average as a finance major with an economics minor. He has been on the President's List six times. Last fall he was a team co-captain and helped the Panthers to the LEC Championship and the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Sendowski helped PSC to the post-season the last four years, participating three times in the NCAA Tournament and once in the ECAC New England Tournament.
The Eastern Regional co-champion and three-time All-America in 2001, Mitchell has a 3.87 grade point average as a Physical Education/Fitness and Rehabilitation major. He has been on the President's List five times, and is a two-time selection to the U.S. Collegiate Snowsport Association's All-Academic Team. Earlier this month, Mitchell finished sixth in the giant slalom and third in the slalom to earn third place overall in the combined alpine event at the USCSA National Championships.
The Verizon Academic All-America program includes University and College Division Teams for football, women's volleyball, men's and women's basketball, baseball, softball, and Men's and Women's At-Large Teams for Fall/Winter and Spring. There are eight All-District Teams as well as the Academic All-America Teams.
