Panthers debut at Berkshire East

CHARLEMONT, Mass. - Plymouth State College began the alpine ski racing season Saturday with the slalom race at the UMass Winter Carnival at Berkshire East Mountain in western Massachusetts.

The PSC men placed third out for 10 schools, while the Panther women took sixth out of 11 schools. The competition continues Sunday with the giant slalom.

Junior Whitney Swaffield (Wolfeboro, N.H.) was the top Panther finisher, placing fifth in the women's race. Freshman Chantelle Heroux (Cooperstown, N.Y.) was the next PSC woman finisher, placing 12th, while sophomore Carol McCarthy (East Rochester, N.H.) was 30th and freshman Kristy Hoch (China, Maine) placed 31st.

Sophomore Tyler Barlow (South Burlington, Vt.) paced the Panther men's squad, finishing seventh. Rob Kiely was next for PSC, placing 15th, followed by freshman Skip Bartlett (Silver Lake, N.H.) in 25th, Brett Trusock in 26th, and junior Garrett Lashar (Kingfield, Maine) in 28th.
